I have been teaching people how to use computers for most of my adult life, so I think it is only natural that I should begin a series of training articles to help business owners with an interest in the internet to help them grow their business. As I find new sites and learn more about them, I am just itching to tell people about them because they are just so fun and I know that they can really work for a lot of people to help them with their marketing efforts. The problem is, many business people are busy doing their actual business and don't have time to learn these things. That is where we come in. You will find a new Facebook link on the B2B Networking Page. Inside that link will be all of the articles that I have written about Facebook. I encourage others to write some articles about it too. If anyone writes an article about Facebook, it will appear there as well. If there is one thing that I know about social networking, it is that there will ALWAYS be someone who knows more about it than I do! So please feel free to contribute if you have something to say! An Introduction to FRIENDS Friends are the key to social networking. Even if you are a quiet person who really doesn't reach out that much and doesn't have lots of friends, you want lots and lots of "friends" in social networking for your business. Using the internet as a business tool, you need to start thinking of all the people that you are meeting as your customers. In social networking lingo, these are called your "friends" and it really doesn't matter that they are not a real "have a cup of tea with you" kind of friend. If you are clear in your intention while online - that you are out there to build your business - they won't mind. If they do, they can always deny your friend request since they don't know you. If we were to really start at the beginning, we would have to ask, "Who is your customer? What are their interests? What do they need to be interested in to be your customer?" Perhaps you own a bead store. Your customers might be into jewelry making. In that case, you now have something to go on - a KEYWORD. Keywords are words that identify your customers. So write down a list of keywords for your business. Then, go register yourself on Facebook if you haven't already done that and add me as your first friend. To add me as your friend, go to my Profile and click on the "Add as Friend" link. When you are making friends on Facebook, it is always a good idea to add a personal message with your friend request to start building the relationship. Why do you want to be my friend? When you add me as a friend, be sure to add a personal message with the request! Open Facebook in a new window so that you can go back and forth. When you are done, come back here for the next part... Quick Exercise - Write down a list of keywords for your business.
